Greek Yogurt with Honey

Greek yogurt has got very thick and creamy texture as there is an extra step in making Greek yogurt compared to the normal yogurt, which result in its thickness. This extra step is that after the milk is heated and cultured, it is then left in muslin cloth, so that the whey filters whey out of the yogurt. Because of this extra step in the process, Greek yogurt is less runny than other types of yogurt.
Yogurt is a quick dessert that I eat almost everyday. I have tasted many different flavours, sometimes, I think the simpler, the better it is. In Greece, Greek yogurt with honey (Yiaourti me Meli: γιαούρτι με μέλι) is served at all the restaurants. As simple as it sounds, the combination of these two are just delicious! I remember I had it almost everyday, for breakfast too!
Well, of course, apart from the yogurt, Greek are famous for their honey. Greek honey is internationally known to be a special honey. Thyme honey is by far the best honey. When I was in Greece, I bought 2 bottles of honey, one Thyme honey and one normal Greek honey. Since I come back from Greece, I have been making this simple dessert. I have tried a few Greek-style yogurt, but, the real Greek yogurt that I am able to find at the supermarket is still Fage Total Greek Yogurt. There is no comparison with other Greek-style yogurt that I bought, which most of them do not assemble the texture of Greek yogurt.
This kind of day to day dessert can be prepared so quickly, you’ll see that nice things can sometimes the easiest things to do! 🙂

For the Greek Yogurt with Honey:
250g greek yogurt
4-5 tbsp green honey

Put a few spoons of Greek Yogurt into a small serving bowl. Drizzle a small amount of honey over the top, just a light drizzle. Additionally, you can sprinkle over the top of the yogurt and honey some chopped nuts, good choices are walnuts or pistachios.
I love Greek yogurt and if you have it in the muslin cloth for longer….you can make your own yogurt cheese!!!
I have never tried making greek yogurt nor yogurt cheese.. that's darn good idea!!
Such a healthy treat! The Greek yogurt looks so creamy 😉

Greek yogurt. It sounds yummy to me. I've always wanted to try them, but when I see them at the supermarket they're just too pricy to buy.. 🙁
Hi Tracie,
Yeah, good ones could be slightly more expensive but well worth it I think. 😉
greek yoghurt and honey is a classic combo i can't live without and always a favourite come the summer months over raspberries or cherries plucked fresh from the garden (or storebought if the birds have gotten to them). lovely photos! and very glad to have met u at GFS. hope the invention test went well x
The idea of raspberries and cherries sounds delightful to me!!
Same here, glad to have met you at GFS too.. and the test went ok .. I wasn't the winner though 😛
A simple but delicious dessert. I had some today with toasted muesli and shredded apple – so yummy and creamy (though it was my breakfast – a bit of an indulgence). My favorite panna cotta is made with greek yogurt.
Wow.. I love your idea of breakfast, sounds really really good! I have never had panna cotta made with greek yogurt.. thanks for sharing this!
You gave me an idea of adding honey into my store-bought yogurt 🙂
Enjoy!! 🙂
I prefer Greek yogurt to normal yogurt…soooo creamy, but higher in fats =(
I know what you mean.. I buy the 0% fat one, but am I convinced?
Leemei, you know I love yogurt, so you got me on with this one !!!
ahhhh….. 🙂
I love your simple recipe! simple, delish and so beautifully captured!
Thank you! 🙂
Hi, Leemei, I eat yogurt everyday, I love eat! I didn't know the procedure to make Greek Yogurt, I also buy the one you mentioned. As for honey, in Italy we have many kinds of it. I always buy one particular type of organic honey which is creamy rather than fluid and not too sweet, just delicious:)) Ciao Sabrina
Ciao Sabrina,
I would love to find out more about Italian honey.. I love it!
I am looking into getting <a title="Corporate Catering" href="http://www.jaspersonline.co.uk/">corporate caterers or a catering franchise for an event I am holding and I found your article on Greek Yogurt with Honey a good read.
My idea of a perfect dessert is a few tablespoons of vanilla greek yogurt drizzled with honey and topped with sliced toasted almonds. The almonds add a nuttiness and a great textural contrast.
It tastes just like ice-cream, except of course infinitely more healthy 🙂
I love the idea of vanilla greek yogurt and sliced almonds.. I could see how all the flavours explodes in my mouth. Will give this a go next time! 🙂
I feel like a Greek god when I eat this. My people have been eating this ambrosia for millennia.
