It’s officially spring now but the weather here still isn’t spring-like. I still need to wear my winter coat when I go out. π Seriously, I have no idea what’s wrong and when will we have decent warm and sunny weather! At least, a long weekend has kind of cheered me up! π
Time Β just flew by without my realisation and a long weekend is a luxury for me! Of course, it wouldn’t make sense if I just do nothing and waste all the free time I have. So, I have decided to make some hot cross buns to give myself an Easter treat!
Hot Cross BunsΒ are spiced sweet buns made with currants or raisins that are generally eaten on Good Friday, when Christ was crucified on the cross and HisΒ return to lifeΒ on the Sunday following his death on Friday, which is Easter – the preeminent feast that celebrates His resurrection. The cross on the bun is the symbol of crucifixion.
Never have I before attempted baking hot cross buns so I was really excited to get my hands on! I found some recipes on the internet and after checking all the ingredients, they seem pretty straight forward and I have them all in my larder and fridge.Β I think hot cross bun is pretty similar to Panettone, as it also uses raisins and citrus peels. Both have fluffy and light inside, just a good tea time treat!
Happy Easter!
They look wonderful! Happy Easter.
Cheers,
Rosa
Thank you!
You are so right about the weather. It’s enough already π
And why is it that I’ve been seeing so many hot cross bun recipes lately? Am i missing something? This looks so delish!
Hot cross buns are commonly eaten during Easter in Europe. Not sure if it’s the case in the States?
I so miss hot cross buns. Yours looks absolutely scrumptious! Just right with a dollop of salted butter. Happy spring!(yes, I’m waiting for it to arrive as well;))
I like it toasted too π
Your hot cross buns look delicious π

Thank you Ira!
Hi Leemei, I just submitted my comment, but it doesn’t seem to have been posted? I wanted you to know that I found your cookbook “Lemongrass & Ginger” before I found your blog! Actually I got the cookbook as a Christmas gift. however, it’s a translated version – in Dutch!! I’m a Malaysian (from Kuching) living in Belgium (Flanders). The title of your cookbook in Dutch is “Citroengras & Gember”. I was intrigued when I read the intro, because the writer is a Malaysian!! Well done! BTW, I love your cookbook but I wish there’s a picture for every recipe π I
Love your hot cross buns! Happy belated Easter!
Hello Nasifriet! Thanks for your comment and dropping by my blog. Glad to know that you have got a copy of my cookbook as a gift. π
I am so glad to know another Malaysian living abroad and hope to see you around and would be great to know more when you have tried some recipes in my cookbook. π
Happy belated Easter to you too!
You did well. Yummy. You relate well the cross on the bun is the symbol of crucifixion. Share your faith whenever you have the opportunity.
Thank you! π
Wow your hot cross buns look extraordinary delicious!!!
Thank you Nami. π
Your buns look so pretty and tempting. I love freshly baked buns but then so lazy to make π Having said that I was very lucky to receive some from a friend who stay nearby. They were still hot when she passed to me. My gosh, they were so good!….mmm. I need to make again one of these days, when I’m not so lazy…hehe. And the weather? Oh dear, it’s really miserable up north here in Aberdeen. Underneath my winter jacket, I dare not reveal how many layers I have to wear….haha. But well, hope the nice weather comes soon.
I don’t normally make buns but I thought I would give it a go. π
Yes, the weather has been really disappointing until last week it started to get warmer. The weekend just past was sunny and warm though. π
Your hot cross buns look great, like the sultana and the orange peels in it…
Hope you had a great Easter π
Thank you Juliana. π
I love hot cross buns – I’m still meaning to make some, even though Easter was weeks ago π
I have always wanted to make them and I was glad that I finally did. π
Oh its ok, the weather here is rainy…so very wet. I would like one of these buns to munch on while sitting on the couch, watching TV and wrapped up in a tartan blanket.
Lovely idea to munch hot cross buns, wrapped up and watching TV. π
yummy!
